Disciplined bowling chokes the chase
Set 267 to win, Zug Cricket Club never got their chase going and were bowled out for 161 in 35.1 overs, undone by tight bowling and a string of falling wickets.
The damage started early: Akram Khadarkhel struck twice inside the first four overs, removing Gautham Baskaran (8) caught by Abhishek Shukla and Mohamed Irshad Abdul Samad (5) bowled, leaving Zug at 21-2.
Ankush Panwar then took over, dismantling the middle order with three dismissals — Amal Fonseka (10) and Hari C (8) both trapped lbw, plus Akhil (8) caught by Afsar Feeda — as Zug slumped from 44-3 to 68-5 inside 17 overs. His figures of 3 for 22 off 8 overs (economy 2.75, including two maidens) squeezed the innings at a critical juncture.
Srikanth M. Shambat then cleaned up the tail, taking 4 wickets for 22 off 6.1 overs at an economy of 3.57, accounting for Himesh Parikh (21, caught by Shukla), Rushdy Jalaldeen (9, lbw), and Nilan Walgamuwage (0, caught by Qudratullah Safi). Captain Chamith Karannagodage (10) was caught-and-bowled by Shambat, while Arihant Gupta chipped in with the wicket of Nirojan Manikkavasakar (24), caught by Rakesh Pawar, breaking the innings’ only real resistance at 101-7.
Zug’s top scorer was Nirojan Manikkavasakar with 24 off 25, followed by Himesh Parikh’s 21 off 38, but none could build a partnership large enough to threaten the target. The innings was further undone by 43 extras (30 wides, 10 no-balls, 3 byes) plus a 5-run penalty. Zahed Gul Shinwari remained unbeaten on 10 off 6 as the final wicket fell in the 35th over.

A statement win for a rising club
This 105-run victory is far more than league points — it validates the club’s remarkable rise from its 2024 founding, through a Regional League Final appearance and CSNL qualification, to now competing and winning at the National League level in only its third year.
Umpires Abraham Koshy and Safi oversaw the contest. After two heartbreakingly close losses to open CSNL 2026, the Mavericks dominated with both bat and ball from the first ball to the last. The maiden CSNL win is on the board — and it arrived in style. 🟡⚫
